The 20th annual Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee will be presented July 9-13, 2008. This family musical event features many types of Jazz: Cajun, Big Band, Swing, 50'S-60'S R&R, Dixieland, and Straight Ahead Jazz. Come and enjoy the breathtaking scenery and fresh air while experiencing the spectacular High Sierra mountains that become filled with the sounds from some of the world's finest musicians. We call it "Jazz with Altitude". Be prepared for all types of mountain weather-bring a jacket for the cool evenings and an umbrella for possible showers. Where can you find the music? Most of the 10 music venues are in two areas of town-along Old Mammoth Road and in the Village area. Some are small indoor areas, but most are located under large tents. Food and drink are available for purchase, chairs are provided, and many locations have dance floors. Come listen to our "free" shows from 3-7pm Thursday July 10th. A special feature of this event is our Jazz Camp for 13-17 year olds. We are proud to be one of the few festivals of this type to provide a week long camp for students to learn how to "improvise". We will feature these campers on stage both Friday & Saturday. Try to come to one of their stes, you will be amazed at their talent. Something special for our 20th anniversary will be a Friday morning parade featuring the bands playing at the Jubilee. Also, expect "special" sets throughout the weekend such as "pianorama" where piano players play solo for 1/2 a set.You may hear ragtime, boogie woogie, and just about any other style of music. Music listening hours are from approximately the following: Wed. from 7-10:30pm, Thurs. from 3-11pm, Fri. from 12:30pm-1am, Sat. from 9:30am-1am, Sun. from 8:30am-5:30pm. For those who can't get enough and are not ready to stop hearing great music, we will have "Extra Jazz after dark" from 6:30-9:30pm Sunday for an extra charge. "All Jubilee" badges are currently on sale until March 3rd for $75.00, until May 1st for $80.00, and after May 1st for $85.00-the same price as at the gate. Children under 12 are free when accompanied with an adult. Youth badges (13-17) are only $10. 00 for the whole weekend, and college age (18-22) are $40 for the weekend. Daily & evening badges will be available at the gate the day/evening they are to be used. Locally you can call 760-934-2478 for more information, or use 1-877-mtn-jazz (877-686-5299). |

Outdoors in Mammoth Environmental Festival
brian@recyclesierra.com
Phone: 760-914-0115 / Brian Robinette
Mammoth organizations announce the premiere of "Outdoors in Mammoth," a family-centered environmental festival featuring Jean-Michel Cousteau. The summer event is an opportunity to celebrate Mammoth's unique place in the mountains by raising awareness through communication, education, and action. The festival, set for August 5th & 6th, 2008, provides an exceptional and enjoyable atmosphere for all ages.
The two-day event, themed "Summit to the Sea - Everything is Connected," will be a fun and interactive opportunity for families to explore the mountains and discover the role they each can play in building a responsible tomorrow. Through field trips and experiences, the event aims to spread realization that land and sea are connected; that humans and nature are connected; and that the present is connected to the future; while every individual - regardless of age - can make intelligent decisions that have a powerful impact on the environment.
The focus will be hands-on activities with short journeys to lakes, creeks, hot springs, and mountains. Examples of morning, afternoon, and evening activities include hiking to the summit source of our drinking water to become a citizen scientist by testing the water quality; adventuring into nature with the Paiute Indians to understand how they dwelled sustainably for thousands of years; investigating the local hot springs to gain knowledge of the natural energy sources; watching a thought-provoking film under the stars; and enjoying a summer, open-air dinner conversation with renown environmental ambassador, Jean-Michel Cousteau. |

Mammoth Festival - Wine, Music & Food
http://www.mammothmountain.com.
Phone: 760-934-2571
The Mammoth Festival - Wine, Music and Food is now in its third year and growing ever more popular with locals and visitors alike.
The festival begins with a Wine Walk at the Village at Mammoth and continues throughout the weekend with tastings from a variety of world-class vintners. Visitors can explore the works of local craftspeople from around the Sierra region when Mammoth's long-running art fair returns to the festival's outdoor Woods Site. There is no better way to experience a taste of Mammoth than in the outdoor food court. Many of Mammoths finest restaurants will have a variety of savory snacks and desserts available to pair with a new favorite wine.
The outdoor stage is nestled in and among the tall pines and in 2007 Big Head Todd and the Monsters rocked the house. Performances by Tito Puente, Jr. Orchestra, Chris Cain, Vance Gilbert and more had everyone out of their seats.
The 2008 lineup will be announced soon |
